The Relationship Between The Narrator And His Wife

Cathedral The relationship between the narrator and his wife was acrimonious at best. He does not care enough for her to be nice to a house guest who is a friend of hers as evidenced by his comment â€Å"I wasn’t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered me.† (Carver, 1983, p.2679). In point of fact he seems to be a jerk overall with his comment about the man being blind. I have always believed prejudice is based in ignorance and I think this is a perfect example. He is bothered by a blind man and freely admits to not having any blind friends. He is afraid of what he does not know and of someone who is different. The wife’s comments back to him also divulge a sourness towards their relationship. He writes â€Å"My wife looked at me with irritation† (Carver, 1983, p.2683) and â€Å"My wife gave me a savage look† (Carver, 1983, p.2679) bolstering the conclusion made with the narrators comments above. I think their relationship should change after this. She should leave the jerk and find someone who actually gives a damn about her! Having said that, my training and experience as a former Firefighter/EMT tells me things will only get worse until some big event happens at which point they will get divorced. The significance of the blindness is that he has so much to teach others. It is ironic that the narrator is â€Å"bothered† by this man’s blindness and feels a certain amount of defeat in his inability to describe a Cathedral to him. What would you do if a friend asked you to forsake your values? Recently, a friend of mine, Cheryl, did just that by presenting me with an ethical dilemma, requesting me to lie and support her abortion decision. We had been friends for years; in fact I introduced her to her boyfriend Mike, also a friend of mine. She and I had previously bonded over our shared beliefs that life begins at conception. My friend Cheryl has just found out that she is pregnant. I understand she is scared because she and Mike are still very young and in school, but I was shocked when she asked me not to tell Mike and go with to an abortion clinic to terminate the pregnancy. I wondered how she could even think that way; it s the opposite of everything we believed in. Cheryl s said being in this situation is exceedingly different than just thinking about it, it s not that simple. She feels that Mike would want to keep the baby and she can t see how they ll finish school and raise a child. Conclusion It was found that majority of the customers were satisfied with the vehicle they have chosen. And the small car segment is flourishing in the Indian car market. It is annually growing around 18-20%. However this is due to the easy availability of loans and finances to the end consumers. This is a great opportunity for the companies to encash by increasing the level of satisfaction they can not only increase their sales volumes but will have satisfied customers as well.
