In Mass Boom Wing Structure Engineering Essay
In Mass Boom Wing Structure Engineering Essay Wing structure is a principle part of the airplane which transmits oppose applied loads and give and keep up streamlined shape. Mass Box pillar Box pillar Multi-fight Delta Wing http://www.free-online-private-pilot-ground-school.com/pictures/wing-components.gif FIGURE 1: Wing segments (http://www.free-online-private-pilot-ground-school.com/airplane structure.html) 1.1 Mass blast structure In mass blast wing structure there are ribs with a couple of extras to endure the twisting and the torsional load is conveyed by fight networks. The external wing is just neutralizes the clasping because of shear powers with assistance of the ribs and range shrewd stiffeners. Mass blast structure is for the most part use on moderate airplane with thick wings and low wing loadings. (Torenbeek.E 1999, p259) C:UserscompaqDesktopCapturen.PNG FIGURE 3: Typical single fight Mass blast structure (SYNTHESIS OF SUBSONIC AIRPLANE DESIGN, 1988) Favorable circumstances in Mass blast structure Tightened blasts are simple to produce and may be adjusted to the neighborhood feeling of anxiety liked. High feelings of anxiety are reachable. Detriments of Mass blast structure Disappointment of fight blast is cataclysmic, because of the nonappearance of safeguard qualities; the mass blast wing structure is not, at this point utilized in new vehicle airplane plans. Because of the high worry in the fight blast the avoidances under twisting burdens are enormous. The skin has no impact in, the engrossing the twisting second so that isn't utilized proficiently. On the off chance that two-fight arrangement is utilized, the fight stature is not exactly the airfoil thickness. The powers in the fight blasts because of twisting are consequently expanded and increasingly material will be required. Numerous ribs are required to balance out the fight blasts. The skin will be clasp when stacked if no stringers are utilized; this will unfavorably influenced the streamlined cleanness. (Torenbeek.E 1999, p260) 1.2 Box pillar structure In box pillar development there are dainty skins or networks and stringer jointed fit as a fiddle. This wing intended to convey shear, bowing and torsional loads. Box shaft structures join skin boards, which are focused on just to take shear powers, yet in addition the end load because of twisting. From the perspective of safeguard plan and focused on skin structure is far superior to the mass blast type. (Torenbeek.E ,1999, p260) This technique is increasingly reasonable for airplane wings with medium to high load forces and varies from the mass blast idea in that the upper and lower skins likewise add to the range insightful twisting obstruction. Another distinction is that the idea joins length savvy stringers to help the exceptionally focused on skin board territory. The resultant utilization of an enormous number of end-load conveying individuals improves the general auxiliary harm resilience. http://www.scribd.com/doc/39959654/WING Focal points of box bar structure The upsides of the container pillar will be obvious when significant skin thickness is required to get adequate tensional unbending nature on wing structure for fast and dainty, high viewpoint proportion wings. In gently stacked wings, anyway the feeling of anxiety in the upper skin will be kept genuinely low to abstain from locking and the distinctions in weight will be little as contrasted and the mass blast type. Inconveniences of box pillar structure Collaborations among the ribs and stringers are a fundamental bit of leeway of the case bar, on account of these ribs needs to pass by the stringers or way of the heap can be fall flat. Additionally this structure has numerous joints which make the wing structure substantial. It needs more amass time, builds multifaceted nature, stress fixation zones and assembling cost.( http://www.scribd.com/doc/30983628/olaestruclayout-1#) 2. MATERIAL SELECTION FOR THE WING STRUCTURE A few huge variables thought about while choosing materials for airplane auxiliary applications. http://www.scielo.oces.mctes.pt/pdf/ctm/v20n3-4/v20n3-4a11.pdf Materials properties, for example, à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Ultimate pressure à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Yield pressure à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Stiffness à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Temperature limits à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Corrosion opposition à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Fatigue opposition à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Fracture durability à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Fragility at low temperatures à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Crack development opposition à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Ductility à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Maintainability à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Reliability à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Fabricability The fundamental gathering of materials utilized in airplane development has been: à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Wood à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Steel à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Aluminum combinations à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Titanium combinations à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¢ Fiber fortified composites Aluminum combinations use in basic parts In airplane structures Aluminum amalgams are for the most part utilized since its a moderately minimal effort, just delivered and machined. Rib is a basic piece of the wing to which keeps the streamlined profile, and restrict the appropriated streamlined weight stacks alongside the skin, circulate packed burdens into the structure redistribute worry around any discontinuities Increase the segment clasping quality of the stringers through end limitation.( http://www.scribd.com/doc/30983628/olaestruclayout-1#) Increase the skin board clasping quality. Gathering 7000 aluminum compound utilized in Compression applications like this, where static quality is a higher priority than weariness or harm resistance. It is additionally utilized in Upper wing surfaces and shafts. Wing Spars Transmit bowing and tensional burdens. Produce a shut cell structure to give protection from torsion, shear and pressure loads. (http://www.scribd.com/doc/30983628/olaestruclayout-1#)These as a rule include slender aluminum amalgam networks and spines, in some cases with discrete vertical stiffeners bolted to the networks. The ribs are expelled or machined and shot or bolted onto the networks. Skin is to frame impermeable streamlined surface, Transmit streamlined powers to ribs stringers, Resist shear torsion loads.( http://www.scribd.com/doc/30983628/olaestruclayout-1#) Aluminum combination used to produce the wing. Aluminum combinations and their suggested applications Material Suggested Application 2024-T3, T42, T351, T81 Use for high quality pressure application; has best break sturdiness, slow split development rate and great exhaustion life. 2224-T3, 2324-T3 8% improvement quality more than 2024-T3; weariness and strength better than 2024-T3. 7075-T6, T651, T 7351 Have higher quality than 2024, lower crack strength, and use for strain applications where exhaustion isn't basic. 7079-T6 Like 7075 however has preferred thick area properties over 7075. 7150-T6 11% improvement quality more than 7075-T5. Exhaustion and durability better than 7075-T6. 717-T6, T651 Use for pressure application. Aluminum-Lithium 10% lighter, 10% stiffer and prevalent weariness execution than other AL compounds. PM Aluminum Higher quality, great weariness life, great sturdiness, higher temperature ability and prevalent erosion obstruction. TABLE 2: Aluminum ALLOYS AND THEIR RECOMMENDED APPLICATIONS (FROM AIRFRAME STRUCTURAL DESIGN, SECOND EDITION 2002, p 102) Wood The primary airplane were built from wood since Wood has a decent Strength/weight proportion about 0.1 same as aluminum composites. http://www.scielo.oces.mctes.pt/pdf/ctm/v20n3-4/v20n3-4a11.pdf Steel Steel are applied in different segments in an airplane. Steel is utilized for profoundly focused Segments due to its high quality. Titanium Titanium has an amazing connection stress/weight, great Resistance to consumption and great downer legitimacies. Its uses are restricted for extraordinary proposes. http://www.scielo.oces.mctes.pt/pdf/ctm/v20n3-4/v20n3-4a11.pdf 3. Twisting MOMENT REDUCTION OF THE WING The twisting second is the power at every area on the fight that twists the wing upward during typical non-rearranged flight, the power turning the wing around the fuselage. The twisting second is zero at the wing-tip and most extreme at the root. In any case, its worth isn't corresponding over the range. As such, it isn't half as much at the wing mid-point all things considered at the root. Truth be told, the mid-point bowing second is just around a 1/4 of the root esteem. A340-200 is an advanced traveler transport plan which has box pillar structure wing with 197ft wing length and 610,000 lb greatest departure weight.( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A340#Specifications) Bowing second = (Total weight*Total wing length)/8 FIGURE 5: BENDING MOMENT VS SPAN POSITION Theâ maximum bowing momentâ magnitude happens at theâ wingâ root Wing weight is straightly corresponding to the wing root bowing second. In this manner on the off chance that we diminish the heaviness of the airplane by utilizing light material it can decrease the most extreme twisting second on the wing root. Additionally the wing range is corresponding to twisting second; the bowing second can be decreased by diminishing the wing length of the airplane. Wing with high viewpoint proportion with whole cleared box structure wing moves towards the root and in this way forward of the airplane. At that point so as to keep up balance littler wing lift and bigger tail plane lift will be required. The inboard move in the lift will diminish the wing root twisting second. At the point when motors are mounted on the wings, their weight is clearly going to be borne by the wing structure, alongside latency stacks as the airplane moves. Push powers from the motors will likewise be conveyed by the wings. With unit mounted motors the push power is roar the wing thus this will in general bend the wing. This can be utilized to adjust the impact of the optimal design of the wing which makes a nose down pitching second. Another bit of leeway of wing mounted motors is that their weight is near the region where lift is produce. This decreases the complete fuselage diminishing the shear power and twisting second at the wing connection to the fuselage. So putting the motors on the wings gives twisting alleviation. (Wilkinson 2009,p 32) Detachable fuel tanks lessen the wing bowing second. On the off chance that the arrival gear isn't mounted under the wing it decreases the wing weight and it too

The Relationship Between The Narrator And His Wife
Cathedral The relationship between the narrator and his wife was acrimonious at best. He does not care enough for her to be nice to a house guest who is a friend of hers as evidenced by his comment ââ¬Å"I wasnââ¬â¢t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered me.â⬠(Carver, 1983, p.2679). In point of fact he seems to be a jerk overall with his comment about the man being blind. I have always believed prejudice is based in ignorance and I think this is a perfect example. He is bothered by a blind man and freely admits to not having any blind friends. He is afraid of what he does not know and of someone who is different. The wifeââ¬â¢s comments back to him also divulge a sourness towards their relationship. He writes ââ¬Å"My wife looked at me with irritationâ⬠(Carver, 1983, p.2683) and ââ¬Å"My wife gave me a savage lookâ⬠(Carver, 1983, p.2679) bolstering the conclusion made with the narrators comments above. I think their relationship should change after this. She should leave the jerk and find someone who actually gives a damn about her! Having said that, my training and experience as a former Firefighter/EMT tells me things will only get worse until some big event happens at which point they will get divorced. The significance of the blindness is that he has so much to teach others. It is ironic that the narrator is ââ¬Å"botheredâ⬠by this manââ¬â¢s blindness and feels a certain amount of defeat in his inability to describe a Cathedral to him. What Would You Do If A Friend - 1250 Words
What would you do if a friend asked you to forsake your values? Recently, a friend of mine, Cheryl, did just that by presenting me with an ethical dilemma, requesting me to lie and support her abortion decision. We had been friends for years; in fact I introduced her to her boyfriend Mike, also a friend of mine. She and I had previously bonded over our shared beliefs that life begins at conception. My friend Cheryl has just found out that she is pregnant. I understand she is scared because she and Mike are still very young and in school, but I was shocked when she asked me not to tell Mike and go with to an abortion clinic to terminate the pregnancy. I wondered how she could even think that way; it s the opposite of everything we believed in. Cheryl s said being in this situation is exceedingly different than just thinking about it, it s not that simple. She feels that Mike would want to keep the baby and she can t see how they ll finish school and raise a child. My gut reaction says this is all wrong, but I cannot make a decision without considering the options and who will be affected: Myself, Mike, Cheryl and the Baby. What if I tell Mike what s happened, and still go with Cheryl to the clinic regardless of how I feel, I m still her friend. If I m honest with Mike and tell him about the situation, he will have a chance to talk things over with Cheryl and I won t need to lie. I think he would be grateful to know the truth, yet my interference could be their end.Show MoreRelatedThe Importance Of Friendship By Your Side And Living Without A Friend1290 Words à |à 6 PagesThe Importance Of Friendship Friends are the foundation of life; they make life adventurous, fun, and enjoyous. The paper will mostly dwell on the methods and principles that can be put into use in an effort to get rid of the vice.Advertising We will write a custom term paper sample on Racism in the American Nation specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Introduction Racism is a discriminatory practice against people from certain races or of a certain color. Racism can also be defined as the unfair practice of showing undue favor to a certain class of people and denying the same for other people who equally qualify to receive the same treatment either as citi zens of the same country, students of the same school or members of the same organization. Racism is a common practice especially in places where there are mixed groups of people with diverse racial backgrounds. In the United States of America, the word racism has been the talk of media and the general American population over and over again. Even though the national constitution clearly advocates for racial equality and acknowledgement and appreciation of racial differences, it is uncertain whether the same sentiments are engraved on the hearts of every American. With the prohibition of racial segregation as far as social places and other amenities are concerned, one would be mistaken to think that the USA has come to a stage in its history where racism is totally inexistent. The above statements may not be true if the experiences of the daily life of the minority races in America are taken into account. In the day to day life of such individuals, there comes a time they come face to face with racism. These are the times when the unnumbered Americans who are still racists at heart expose the same to them. As much as racism is a disgusting and can even be regarded as barbaric, the experiences that these people sometimes go through are tough and even at times humiliating. As discussed above, this problem of racism mainly affects the minority races in the United States of America. The two most common races that have severely been subjected to racism are the African Americans and the Arab Americans. The proprietors of racism have their own reasons for treating such races in the manner that they do. For African Americans, the main obvious reason for their subjection to racial discrimination is the color of their skin and their ancestral background. The black color of the African Americans has often evoked different reactions from white Americans when it comes to the issue of equality. It is a common behavior for the whites to feel more free while in the company of other whites than they do when in the company of blacks.Advertising Looking for term paper on social sciences? The type of racism that is rampant today is rather muted than blatant. It happens daily and to a good number of African Americans daily but it is never reported due to the fact that the subjects have learnt to live with it. White Americans are also prejudiced against the African Americans because of their ancestral background. The fact that the ancestors of the latter first came to the United States as slaves creates an impression of their inferiority. Those who practice racism still have the mentality that the whites were originally the masters of the African Americans and should still be treated with the same regard. On the other hand, the Arab Americans are racially discriminated because of the history of war between the United States and the Arab countries and terrorist groups of Arab origin. The war between America and Iraq shaped the perspective of many Americans on the Arabs. The fight with terrorist groups such as the infamous Al-Qaeda has also been crucial in shaping the perspective of American whites on their fellow citizens of Arabic origin. The 9/11 bomb attacks had a devastating effect on the relationship between Arab Americans and the white Americans. After this tragic historical event, most Americans regarded Arabs with hostility and disgust. This prejudice was caused by the wrongful association of every Arab with the terror attacks. As much American legislators have done their best to ensure racial equality, chances are that this may never come to achievement as far as the relationship between white Americans and Arab Americans is concerned. And even though there may be a falsified outward portrayal of r acial equality between these two races, it is certain that what lies on the inside is something totally different. In retaliation, the Arabs have also regarded the Americans as entirely immoral and unfair. There is dire need for a solution to the problem of racism in the United States of America. According to the writer of this paper, this solution lies with a discipline of Psychology called Social Psychology. Social Psychology is a study that describes the influence of other people on a personââ¬â¢s thoughts, imaginations, behaviors and feelings. The fact that the human mind is prone to social influence gives hope of the total restoration of racial equality in the United States of America. Social Psychology comprises of various theories that can be used to root out racism from the United States. These theories try to identify the exact causes of racism in America. By doing this, these theories or principles provide room for combat against this vice through efforts to get rid of the causes.Advertising We will write a custom term paper sample on Racism in the American Nation specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The first theory is the scapegoat theory. This theory suggests that people who are caught in certain unpleasant situations tend to find someone to blame it on. By doing this, the people find an outlet for channeling out their disappointment and distress which can lead to racism. A good example of the scapegoat theory at work is the blaming of the 9/11 terror attacks on the entire Arab community. This blame is obviously wrong because it is not based on anything, nor is there substantial evidence that proves this stance. Furthermore, it is impossible that every single Arab in the United States of America had a hand in the perpetration of the bombing. This is a mere method devised by American citizens who are racists to find an excuse for promoting racial discrimination and prejudice. Another instance of the scapegoat theory is the blaming of the high rate of crimes in the United States on African Americans. The majority of criminals in America are of black origin. This has created an impression that a majority if not all blacks are terrorists. This has even affected the line of duty of law enforcers as they are more stringent with African Americans than they are with the whites. This characteristic creates a situation where a large percentage of the American population is prejudiced against colored people, and most specifically, African Americans. The second Social Psychology theory that can be used as a solution to racism is the us and them or in-group and out-group theory. In this theory, it is believed that each and every individual has the feeling of the need to belong. It speculates that human beings are a species that finds solidarity in grouping. However, it is through this grouping that conflicts and arguments arise between rival groups. This raises the need to stand for on eââ¬â¢s group and defend it with all that one can afford. Through the identification with a certain group, one tends to gradually come to like all the aspects of this particular group and hate everything about the rival groups. This is where prejudice and racism come in. When one develops a passionate dislike for such groups, it creates room for passionate racism. This is especially the case where the organizations or groups were formed on the basis of racial backgrounds. Efforts of promoting free constructive social interaction between such groups may prove equally futile. The Just-world Phenomenon is yet another principle of Social Psychology that can be effectively used to put a stop to racism. In this phenomenon, the world is regarded as soundly fair in its dealings with people.Advertising Looking for term paper on social sciences? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More This theory holds that no one is to blame for the evil that may happen to a person. In the same manner, those who are more fortunate in life do not owe it to anybody but got the fortune from the very world that grants both good and bad. In a summary, this principle suggests that good people in life receive good things while bad people receive a share of misfortunes. The Just-World Phenomenon justifies the discrimination of people basing on their racial backgrounds. The perpetrators of racism in this case say that they are not really the ones to blame for the existence of the minority races against which they discriminate. Since they donââ¬â¢t take any responsibility for the dark color of anyoneââ¬â¢s skin, they actually have no problem if they relate with them differently from the way they relate with each other. Another theory of Social Psychology that can be used to get rid of racism is the principle of social inequalities. According to this principle, the discrepancy in the possession of valuables in life creates strata in society that are used to gauge the suitability of individuals in the society. This theory explains that the rich, who are commonly referred to as the ââ¬Å"havesâ⬠are prominent and respected members of the society and have a great deal of influence on matters in the society. On the contrary, the people who are less endowed with wealth, commonly referred to as the ââ¬Å"have-notsâ⬠are usually treated with less attention and are subject to discrimination. Most of the members of the minority races are not so rich. This is either because they are mere immigrants with a minimal fortune or that they had a poor ancestral background. This makes them victims of racism on the basis of their monetary possessions. This was the situation that faced a majority of African Americans many years back but it has taken a positive turn in the twenty first century. The above Social Psychology theories and principles are the most effective t ools that can ever be used to stop racism because they identify factors that lead to the vice. Through a careful address of these factors, there is a possibility that racism can be part of history in the United States of America. If the government and other concerned organizations put special emphasis on the above named theories and principles, the writer is positive that America will be free from racism in just a matter of months. The problem of racism in the United States of America developed as a result of a high rate of immigration into the nation. Today, the Native American population accounts for less than fifty percent of the total population. Because America is made up of a wide range of races and cultures, there are higher chances of racism and cultural bias. Therefore, the major cause of racism in the United States is the generalization of a variety of races under one nation (Heriot, 2003). Racism in the United States of America has been the cause of political debates, slu ggish development of some areas and personal misunderstandings between individuals. For the above to be corrected, a solution for racism should be arrived at urgently. The writer also chose this topic or racism because it is the right of every American citizen to receive equal treatment and privileges just like others irrespective of the race or color. This problem is also important because its solution will lead to the motivation of the American citizens who were previously victims of racism. They will receive a sense of belonging which will go a long way in renewing their dedication and loyalty to their service for the nation. This will eventually translate into a faster economic growth because these people will restore their confidence in the nation. For instance, an Arabic business man wonââ¬â¢t have to fear about the risk of loss because he will have confidence in the market that is free from racism. The writerââ¬â¢s personal view of this problem is that it has no place i n such a civilized and modernized society as America. Racism should be the last thing on the minds of any right-minded American citizen who truly loves his or her country. If the United States of America is actually the home of the free as stated in the last stanza of the national anthem, then this freedom should not only be embraced and cherished on the outside only but should also come from deep inside the heart of each and every single American citizen. Each one should be granted the opportunity to enjoy the freedom that such a great nation can offer to its citizens without any racism or prejudice. The writer also thinks that it is the responsibility of every American citizen to ensure that racism is wiped out of the face of the nation. This will only be done through a personal decision to treat all American citizens as equal in all aspects irrespective of their race. This type of solidarity will contribute greatly in the eradication of racism. As it is with every similar situati on, there are some people who stand to benefit from racism in the United States. These include political leaders from the victims of racism who have vested interests. These leaders want to appear as if they are fighting for the rights of their people when in actual sense they are buying time in order to continue enjoying the political support of the people. Unlike the views presented by the writer above, these political leaders believe that racism can only be eradicated through appropriate legislation. This is why they have been pushing for the enactment of bill after bill to reduce chances of racism. However, this method has so far failed. This is because the problem is in the peopleââ¬â¢s minds and not the laws. The LSE Studentsââ¬â¢ Union has been on the forefront in campaigning against racism. One of the main strategies used by this union is the declaration of anti-racism days. They have also employed the use of street matches to persuade people to turn away from racism. T he writer would recommend that other teams should aim at getting more people to be aware of the positive effects of stopping racism. This can be done by printing pamphlets and posters urging them to get rid of racism and help build a strong nation of racial diversities. The other teams can also plan on submitting articles to the print media for publication. These will reach a larger population of people and increase the rate of emancipation of the masses from racism. The writerââ¬â¢s team has done an incredible job in educating Americans about the necessity of dropping racism. The team has mainly focused on high schools. This is because they are the young people that are more likely to bring change to the society as opposed to the elderly who may find it hard adapting to new facts. Apart from that, the team has been in a position to hold events such as seminars and conferences in a bid to campaign against racism. The team has so far received a positive response from the public. O ne important thing that the team does during these events is the collection of signatures from those who pledge to stop racism. If all the people honor their pledges, then the team has delivered thousands of persons from the chains of racism. In addition to the above measures, the writerââ¬â¢s team has also set aside an outreach day on the first Saturday of every month to conduct door to door campaigns against racism. This has been the most effective tool in this campaign. The team is encouraged to carry on with this noble course every time people nod in appreciation and acceptance of the facts presented to them about racism. In conclusion, racism is a rampant practice in the United States of America. The minority races are the ones that mostly fall victim to this vice. Furthermore, it is clear from the above discussion that Social Psychology is the most effective tool in fighting racism. However, there are also those people who benefit from racism and have slowed down its eradic ation. Finally, it is evident from the discussion that the writerââ¬â¢s team has done much in fighting racism. Reference List Heriot, N. (2003). european union Essays european union Essay european union Essay Germany Must Take The Wheel In The European Union TIMOTHY GARTON ASH Special to The Globe and Mail published Friday, Jun. 17 2011, 5:00 AM EDT Last updated Friday, Aug. 24 2012, 3:54 PM EDT Like an overladen lorry labouring up a steep hill, the European project is close to stalling. If it stalls, even the emergency brake may not stop it running back down the hill, out of control, until it Jackknifes. Two of the lads are wrestling over the steering wheel; others lie comatose in the sleeping area at the back of the cabin. We need a woman to come and sort them out. Her name is Angela. The most urgent part of this crisis is Greece and the Eurozone. Between the fury on the streets of Athens and the continued disunity of decision-makers in Brussels, Berlin, Frankfurt and Luxembourg (where the Euro Group huddles again Sunday and Monday), the lorry could stall any day. But its not Just Greece. In Ireland, Portugal and Spain, too, anger is boiling over, as people feel that the young, the poor and the unemployed are being forced to pay for the selfish improvidence of their politicians and of French and German bankers, ho lent profusely where they should not have lent at all. And its not Just the Eurozone. Every single major project of the European Union is faltering. France and Italy are suggesting that the achievement of the Schengen Zone, with no border controls, should be chipped away Just because a few thousand people from convulsed North Africa have taken refuge on the Italian island of Lampedusa. Many European countries are already in a panic about the integration of immigrants and people of migrant origin, especially Muslims. Solidarity and social Justice, central alues of the post 1945 European project, are in retreat almost everywhere, as a result of growing inequality and spending cuts to tackle public debt. In the Arab spring, Europe faces the most hopeful set of events in the 21st century so far, comparable in scale and potential to 1989, but its collective and institutional response to this historic opening has been feeble beyond belief. Yet, this was meant to be the year the EIJ got its act together in foreign policy. Even in the most hopeful cases, Tunisia and Egypt, we may have only a few months in which to prevent the Arab spring becoming an Arab fall. The disappointed hopes of that half of the population which is under 30 would then produce further, larger immigrant surges to Europe. The European-led military intervention in Libya was always likely to be a slow grind, but it has painfully exposed Europes chronic failure to concentrate its military capabilities. Already, some of the powers involved are running short of munitions. Even enlargement, Europes most successful project, is close to stalling. The magnetic attraction of EIJ membership continues to have a significant positive effect in a ountry like Serbia, but ever less so in Turkey. In his victory speech after the recent Turkish elections, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan did not even mention the ELI. Retired prime ministers and foreign ministers never tire of attributing this faltering of the European project to the lack of leadership. (Subtext: It was all so much better wnen we were In cnarge. ) I nls Is true, out less tnan nalT tne story. For wnlle tne quality of European leadership is somewhat poorer than it was a quarter-century ago, the need for it is greater. Why? Because all the great underlying motivators of the European project back in the days of Helmut Kohl, Franpis Mitterrand and Jacques Delors have faded or disappeared. Those powerful driving forces included searing personal experiences of war, occupation, Holocaust, fascist and Communist dictatorships; the Soviet threat, catalyzing west European solidarity; generous, energetic U. S. support for European unification; and a West Germany that was the mighty engine of European integration, with France on top as the driver. The West Germans wanted to rehabilitate themselves as good Europeans, but also needed the support of their European neighbours to achieve their goal of unification. All these are now gone, or very much diminished. While there are intellectually convincing new rationales for the project, including the rise of non-western giants such as China, rationales are no match for emotional motivators. Heart trumps head, every day. The key to so much of this, especially on the economic side, is Germany. For much of its history, what has become the EIJ pursued political ends by economic means. For Mr. Kohl and Mr. Mitterrand, the euro was mainly a political project, not an economic one. Now the boot is on the other foot. To save a poorly designed and overextended monetary union, the political must ride to the rescue of the economic. This is where Angela Merkel comes in. There is no particular reason to expect Germany to take the lead in creating a European foreign and security policy. For a response to the Arab spring, we should look first to Spain, France and Italy. If the issue is the integration of migrants, every country must do its homework. But if we are talking about the European economy and currency, Germany is the indispensable power. Only the combination of Germany and the European Central Bank, working in unison, has a chance of calming the mighty markets. For more than a year now, Ms. Merkel has attempted to find the narrow perhaps non-existent line where the minimum that can be done to save the embattled Eurozone periphery meets the maximum she thinks German public opinion will bear. She has then tried to win her Eurozone partners to that course. So far, it has not worked. Now she needs to start from the other end: Work out, with the ECB and other Eurozone governments, what is the most credible deal available, then put all her authority on the line to persuade a reluctant German public that this will be in their long-term, enlightened, national self-interest. Which it will be. For no one has more to lose from the disintegration of the Eurozone than the continents central economic power. It may soon be too late. Language Notes on the Use of Aint in English
Language Notes on the Use of Aint in English As far as I know, only one rule of English usage has ever made its way into a childrens jump-rope rhyme: Dont say aint or your mother will faint,Your father will fall in a bucket of paint,Your sister will cry, your brother will die,Your cat and dog will call the FBI. Though frequently heard in casual speech, aint has been described as the most stigmatized word in English. Dictionaries usually label it dialectal or nonstandard, while some purists even deny its right to exist, insisting that aint isnt a word. What is it about this simple negative contraction that agitates language mavens and spreads fear on the playground? As these notes demonstrate, the answer is surprisingly complex. Grammar and Usage[The] two meanings of grammarhow the language functions and how it ought to functionare easily confused. To clarify the distinction, consider the expression aint. Unless used intentionally to add colloquial flavor, aint is unacceptable because its use is considered nonstandard. Yet taken strictly as a part of speech, the term functions perfectly well as a verb. Whether it appears in a declarative sentence (I aint going) or an interrogative sentence (Aint I going?), it conforms to the normal pattern for all verbs in the English language. Although readers may not approve of its use, they cannot argue that it is ungrammatical in such sentences.(Gerald J. Alred, Charles T. Brusaw, and Walter E. Oliu, Handbook of Technical Writing, 10th ed. Bedford/St. Martins, 2012) A Brief History of AintAint has had an unusual history. Its a shortened form of several wordsam not, are not, is not, has not and have not. It appears in written English in the 18th century in various plays and novels, first as ant and then as aint. During the 19th century, it was widely used in representations of regional dialect, especially Cockney speech in the UK, and became a distinctive feature of colloquial American English. But when we look at who is using the form in 19th-century novels, such as those by Dickens and Trollope, we find that the characters are often professional and upper-class. Thats unusual: to find a form simultaneously used at both ends of the social spectrum. Even as recently as 1907, in a commentary on society called The Social Fetich, Lady Agnes Grove was defending aint I as respectable upper-class colloquial speechand condemning arent I!She was in a rapidly diminishing minority. Prescriptive grammarians had taken against aint, and it would soon become universally condemned as a leading marker of uneducated usage.(David Crystal, The Story of English in 100 Words. St. Martins Press, 2012) Collocational AintIn Present-Day English, aint is stigmatized even though linguistically it is formed by the same rule speakers use to form arent and other nonstigmatized contracted auxiliary verbs. . . . [T]here is nothing linguistically wrong with it; in fact, aint is used by many speakers in certain fixed expressions and to convey a certain rhetorical effect: It aint over yet! You aint seen nothing yet! If it aint broke, dont fix it.(Kristin Denham and Anne Lobeck, Linguistics for Everyone: An Introduction. Wadsworth, 2010 Prissy, Ridiculous, and Unpopular Alternatives to Aint I?As linguistic scholars have frequently pointed out, it is unfortunate that aint I? is unpopular in educated speech, for the phrase fills a long-felt need. Am I not? is too prissy for down-to-earth people; amnt I? is ridiculous; and arent I?, though popular in England, has never really caught on in America. With a sentence like the one under discussion [Im your best friend, aint I?] you are practically in a linguistic trapthere is no way out unless you are willing to choose between appearing illiterate, sounding prissy, or feeling ridiculous.(Norman Lewis, Word Power Made Easy. Simon Schuster, 1979) Class ActsA correlation exists between the use of aint and social class, i.e. it is more frequent in lower-class speech. In upper-class speech it is indicative of a personal relationship and an informal situation . . . and is employed when the other person knows that the speaker is using aint for stylistic effect, rather than from ignorance or lack of education (Feagin 1979: 217). Since the form is such a strong school-induced shibboleth, informants tend to suppress it in (more formal) interview situations.(Traute Ewers, The Origin of American Black English: Be-Forms in the Hoodoo Texts. Walter de Gruyter, 1995) Gender ActsThere is still in the American popular mind a notion that aint, for all its faults, is masculine, while arent is not simply feminine, but effeminate. In Thomas Bergers novel The Feud (1983), Tony, a high school student, finds that good grammar must take a back seat to his public sexual identity. Tony defends his use of the masculine aint against his girlfriend Eva s objection that it is a sign of ignorance: I dont like to talk like a girl. Somebody might think I was a pansy.(Dennis E. Baron, Grammar and Gender. Yale University Press, 1986) And that aint all. But for now well have to agree with the editors of The American Heritage Book of English Usage: Aint is a word that aint had it easy.

Int'l Business - Research Paper Example It is also important to note that Union Carbide could have developed and implemented an effective alarm and early warning signal system in order to raise the alert for hazardous leaking of gas. This was however, not presents at the factory and resultantly firm was involved in one of the worst industrial disasters in the world. Apart from this, protocols should have been set in order to ensure the swift evacuation of the persons working at the plant as well as people living in and around the plant area in order to ensure that damage was minimum. (Muller) In all, Union Carbide should have in place an effective safety and security mechanism in order to deal with such incidents. 2) Corporate response to such an incident always requires that the firm clearly establish that all the necessary requirements to meet such challenges have been put in place. By having an effective system and plan in place, the overall response could have been different because firm could than claim that all the s afety procedures were in place and as such the incident was something which was beyond the control of the firm. Such a planning therefore would have allowed Union Carbide to actually improve its reputation and goodwill within the Indian and global market. Apart from this, firms can find a common ground to develop the actions of mutual value and interest which could ultimately increase the overall good will and image of the organization within the communities in which they operate. (Clouse and Riddell) 3) Union Carbide has the history of environmental damage as well as inadequate safety procedures in place. Though the firm may be one of the largest industrial groups in United States however, considering its overall track record of not following the safety and environmental protection laws and regulations, the overall implications for the construction of a new plant in Malaysia could be significant. One of the key areas to be highlighted is whether the firm would be able to comply wit h the local as well as international safety standards while constructing a new plant. As mentioned in the case that there will be no double standards and all the safety and security requirements will be fulfilled suggest that the overall implications may not be as sever as they were in case of Bhopal. It is also critical to note however, that Kerteh is oil and gas city for Malaysia with very little population therefore if such an incident occurs again, the overall damage in terms of human causalities will be relatively less. Since Bhopal was a densely populated city as compared to Kerteh therefore the overall implications in terms of causalities may be low however, the damage to environment can be relatively higher. (Shrivastava and Siomkos) 4) Union Carbide is still the center of attraction because of its track record of violating the safety regulations. The discovery of highly toxic material near the Olympic site in Australia as well as the subsequent fires at the Indian plant do indicate that the firm is still not following the strict safety and security requirements. These incidents indicate that Union Carbide, in a bid to become cost effective is ignoring basic safety and environmental protection requirements to be put in place. (Kurzman). It is therefore critical to note that the cost reduction at the cost of human and environmental catastrophe may

Changes in the Practice of Nursing Essay
The health care in the United States is changing, patients need and demand outstanding services delivery. So we as nurses are called up onto deliver this service. With the shift in the health care sector nurses will be even more in demand. This demand will be tied to skill levels and education. This is why it is so important for all nurses to commit to furthering their studies, it will make them more marketable. There will be many new job opportunities due to the restructure of the United States health care system.Providing health insurance to an additional 30 million people will likely make access to care a problem because of inadequate availability of primary care providers to meet the expected increase in demand. This is calling for innovative new ways on how to deliver health care in the United States. A few delivery systems are: -An accountable care organization (ACO) is a group of care providers who coordinate health care for a patients. This could include Doctors, Hospitals, Specialist and other health care providers. The idea is to keep health care cost down and avoid unnecessary test and procedures, but provide high quality care. (Gold, 2013) -Nurse Managed Health Clinics (NMHC) emphasize health promotion, education and disease prevention. It is a facility which is based in a community and staffed with advanced practice nurses as leaders. It provides primary healthcare services to the community. (Kovner & Walani, 2010) ââ¬â Another module or philosophy of primary care is a medical home. It is a team-based facility, which is patient-centered, comprehensive, coordinated, accessible, and focuses on quality and safety. (ââ¬Å"hrsa,â⬠n.d.) All patients should receive the best coordinated care possible, especially the chronically ill, to get the right care at the right time is the purpose of these new modules. At the same time we should avoid unnecessary duplication of services and preventing medical errors ââ¬â For example: The growth of chronic illness and aging populations, in particular, has placed a substantial burden on the healthcare system. Very popular is the patient-centered medical home model that emphasizes continuous coordinatedà patient care. It has been shown to lower costs while improving health care outcomes. The patient-centered medical home is a way of organizing primary care that emphasizes care coordination and communication to transform primary care into ââ¬Å"what patients want it to be.â⬠Medical homes can lead to higher quality and lower costs, and can improve patientââ¬â¢s experience of care. Nurse Managed Health Clinics are led by advanced practice nurses to provide basic primary healthcare and screening. This could possibly be very cost effective if operated to their full potential. But letââ¬â¢s not forget that we also see and increasing demand of Nurse Practitioners (NP) in the hospital setting. We all know our two co-workers who went back to school and completed their NP program and now work in our Emergency Department as NPââ¬â¢s. Many hospitals also started using NPââ¬â¢s to take care of their in-patients. To keep up the demand of these facilities nurses with higher education are the future of the new health care system. Continuity of care is needed, it is the process by which the patient and the physician are cooperatively involved in ongoing health care management toward the goal of high quality, cost-effective medical care. Better quality care is given by higher educated nurses, so to stay marketable and to provide the best possible care to our patients it is in our interested to further our knowledge and our education. Nurse 1: The new health reform not only impact everyone as an individual, but it will also impact businesses as a whole. One of the main points of the new health care reform is to ensure that all Americans have insurance. With insurance not having been mandatory before, Americans who were uninsured had to deal with several financial problems when it came to paying medical bills. There are several individuals that do not have any medical insurance because they either do not have a job or the job that they do have does not offer insurance. And even some people who have the option to have insurance may not buy it because they donââ¬â¢t want to pay for it. And then these same people who have the option to have it but choose not, may end up using a government program to obtain medical services. This cost all tax payers more money for people who have the option to obtain insurance for them but choose to use a government facility. With this new reform it will be mandatory for every individual to obtain at least some sort of basic medical insurance forà themselves. Without insurance, people can sometimes not get the proper care that they deserve. And even though most hospitals do not turn away people without insurance, they do not cut them a break and still stick them with the high medical costs for the medical services that were administered. Americans who did not previously have insurance will now have obtained it. With the increase of insured Americans, the demand for health care providers will increase substantially. A huge percentile of practicing physicians and nurses are over the age of 50. Therefore the medical schools will need to recruit more students to become health care providers. Moreover, this will require additional professors as well as additional medical schools in order to handle the increase in enrollment. I am hoping that this can start our country down a better road with our health care situation. With the layout that has been provided, I can see that the idea is for everyone to benefit from this in one way or another. First, every American will benefit from having the insurance and being able to seek medical attention when needed. Insurance companies will benefit from claims. Doctors will benefit from receiving increased patients. Medical schools will benefit from having an increase of enrollment. Nurse 2: The changes to the nationââ¬â¢s health care system will affect nursing practice as we know it. We see change daily in our current practice. To prepare myself for the challenges and prospects that lie ahead, I am invested in advancing my education by being enrolled in an MSN program, I should complete this program by the end of this year. I do my best to step up to a more advanced leadership positions, currently fulfilling the role of a day shift supervisor in our Emergency Department. I try to stay current about the hospital and unit policies and procedures. I assist staff and physicians with changes, additions, and updates to our computer charting program system. My future plans for changes in my practice include earning certification in Emergency (CEN).I am trying right now to gain more understanding of the legislative process that helps shape health care policies. I needed to write a paper for school and found this subject fascinating. To meet societyââ¬â¢s future healthcare needs, changes are necessary in the way nurses function and we need to improve and advance our education, so that we can development nursing management capabilities. Toà help progress science, and be qualified to meet the needs of many types of patients, nurses need to be leaders, while providing excellent care. Collaboration among healthcare professionals is a requirement in an ever-changing and complex system. It is vital that nurses take ownership, step-up and be personally involved in helping transform health care and hospitals, into a safer place, which is accessible, fiscally responsible, and comprehensive in its care. Nurse 3: The rising cost of healthcare in todayââ¬â¢s economy is in desperate need of a reform, we all know that. Because of this enormously cost many people are unable to receive medical care. People are sicker due to the inability to receive medical attention when itââ¬â¢s needed, so there wait and often the problem is getting much worse by the time there seek medical care. I am very worried about the increasing demand of nurses and the nursing shortage. If we do not address the nursing shortage very soon I see that in the future quantity will replace quality in nursing. Nurses will burn out and leave there position due to the increased demand and increased patient work load. Nurse to patient ratio is increasing, due to financial cuts from hospitals. Hospitals need to work more efficient to be able to keep their doors open. This is not very helpful to job satisfaction. We need to address these issues now. A few ideas would include for hospitals to pay for nursing school and have the student sign a contract to work for the hospital and every year worked 5000 dollars are forgiven in there loan. Also the demand is for everyone to continue with their education and obtain a BSN, MSN or doctorate, this cuts down on the quality of life in itself. Hospitals should give paid hours each week, to each nurse who is obtaining an advanced degree (like 4 hours a week). Summary I think each of my Co-Workers had a little different view on what is health reform meaning to them. In general each one had some kind of understanding about it and each nurse choose to share the point which is most dear to them about the reform. I agree mostly with all of them. The nursing shortage needs to be addressed and a larger more qualified nursing work force needs to be created. Nursing will have a huge impact on how we form the new health care system in the United States. Advanced practice in clinical settingsà seems to be the most reasonable way of addressing the need of the public. Managed health care can be a solution to decrease the enormously cost of health care nowadays. References . Med-Surg Nursing, 23(1), 61-6. Use Of Hydrogen Fuel Cells Is Better Than The Use Of...
A lot of people in our society have been questioning whether the use of hydrogen fuel cells is better than the use of fossil fuels. Each of the two differs from the other massively. They are made in different ways, have different outcomes, advantages and disadvantages, so in order to consider which of the two should be promoted all of the things mentioned should be first analysed. Fossil fuels are defined as hydrocarbons primarily coal, fuel oil or natural gas, which is formed from the remains of dead plants and animals. When these fuels are burnt, the energy released can be harnessed to produce electricity. Fossil fuels are the most popular form of energy as they have very low ignition temperature. All fossil fuels undergo through the process of combustion. Combustion necessarily requires oxygen. All the reactions are exothermic in nature which therefore means they give out heat and sometimes light. The constituent hydrogen and oxygen react with each other chemically and produce high amount of heat and energy. Different fossil fuels burn at different rates because the structures of the hydrocarbons are different in each of these compounds. However, one common by-product of each of these fossil fuel is carbon dioxide. The combustion of fossil fuels can be shown by an example of a simple combustion reaction for methane. The combustion of methane means that it is possible to burn it. Chemically, this combustion process consists of a reaction between methane and oxygen inShow MoreRelatedAdvantages And Disadvantages Of Fuel Cell Technology1023 Words à |à 5 Pagesroad in the world (Voelcker, 2014) and fossil fuels like petrol, coal and crude oil are not renewable and burning these fuels causes pollution (energy and fuels, 2015).
